NOT EVERYONE ON THE INTERNET KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING-ME INCLUDED SOMETIMES!

Does this look like an athletic move? Just because she is fit, should we take her advice blindly?

Thanks to the internet, we live in an age with unlimited access. You can learn a skill, connect with someone, or buy a tool, all at the click of a button. Access to world-class coaches, expert training programs and facilities has allowed a new age of athletic development. It has also caused the waters of what good training looks like to become very muddied. Every day I have an athlete or client come in asking about something they saw online or heard on tv. Sometimes the information is sound and is a great strategy or tool to use. But more often than not it’s junk science or a get ripped fast promise. Unfortunately, the human body hasn’t drastically changed over the past 10,000 years and still only responds to certain stimuli and dosages. No one gets athletic from using ankle weights and performing leg lifts for 50 reps. Although I have had athletes come in and ask if this would help them jump higher because an instagram model demonstrated it and she looked “fit”.
If you walk into any strength and conditioning facility that is able to produce consistent results with athletes or the general public year after year, it’s because they understand the main principles of training.

– You need a high enough training load to cause an adaptation
– You need a consistent training load to keep adapting
– You have to be able to recover from the stimulus

That’s it in a nutshell.
You still need to put in the hard work but find a coach and facility that helps you to figure these pieces out and you’ll be on your way to a strong athletic career. It can be hard to maintain the threes principles above on your own. A lot of times you need someone to help manage all the different pieces that can alter your training path and athletic career. Day in and day out, this is what we strive for at SPC. Real life, real people, real results.
